Our home grown suite of AI products analyzes data from existing security cameras in real-time to detect threats such as weapons, intruders, fires, and where people travel in any environment. The system acts as an end-to-end security camera management system that enables onboarding and management of cameras as well as instant alerts and analytics that allow organizations to pinpoint problems without collecting any personally identifiable information.
We’re looking for a Director / Head of Computer Vision to lead the technology development and strategic vision for the future of Actuate’s products. This is a high impact role that requires a blend of technical leadership and a hands on development approach within our mission-driven environment. The ideal candidate will have deep knowledge of existing computer vision frameworks, and understanding of how to develop and deploy complex models in a production environment while keeping a pulse on emerging research and trends in this space.
As the leader of all things AI, this role will have the opportunity to inspire and mentor our existing team, as well as recruit new talent to augment our capabilities. Working closely with the engineering and product leaders as part of the technical leadership team we will create the long term vision for Actuate’s products.

Requirements:
- 7+ years experience in data science and machine learning including 3+ years in a leadership role
- Demonstrated success building deep learning computer vision systems and products for real time video or image processing
- Strong organization skills and understanding of data pipelines, training methodologies and scalable infrastructure
- Ability to to turn research initiatives into production features with measurable value to our expanding customer base
- Proficiency in advanced programming (Python preferred)
- Experience with machine learning product deployments on cloud services (kubernetes via AWS preferred)
- Excellent leadership and communication skills, particularly translation of technical concepts to non-data science audiences
- Bachelor’s degree in data science, computer science, math, or similar
- Interest in AI and startups
- Resident in the NYC, but open to remote for exceptional candidates
Experience with the following is a plus:
- High throughput, low latency ML/CV applications in a broad range of deployments (on-premise, hybrid, full cloud)
- Knowledge prior implementation of advanced Gen AI tooling
- Experience scaling data science products and teams in a startup environment
- Background in privacy preservation and ethical AI development
- Advanced degree in computer vision, machine learning, data science, or similar
